Good public transit is crucial for cities to function. Efficient and affordable public transit reduces commute times, for drivers and transit riders, and is key to building a strong economy. However, building an affordable and efficient public transit system requires commitment, leadership…and a little bit of love.
|The lack of federal concern for escalating traffic gridlock and our increasingly overburdened transit system is slowly chipping away at national economic productivity to the tune of $10 billion every year. Canada remains the only G8 country without a national transit strategy. A long-term plan is crucial to ensure transparent and accountable funding that is not subject to nonsense partisan politics. Only then can municipalities securely plan and invest long term. That’s why we’re asking you to sign the ‘I HEART Public Transit’ pledge. Take the pledge, spread the word, and encourage others to HEART public transit.|
And how do you get from A to B on a daily basis? We’ll also be posting some of your transit stories and commuter experiences. Share your stories with other transit lovers when you submit your transit pledge, over social media with @HEARTTransit on Twitter, or with the #ihpt hashtag!
